Macau was a colony of Portugal before it was returned to China in 1999. The Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China comprises the Macau Peninsula and the islands of Taipa, Coloane, and Cotai. It is semi-bordered by China on its North and West sides. Macau, otherwise known as the “Las Vegas of China,” is located about an hour west of Hong Kong.
